ScarWork
ScarWork Therapy
Scar tissue is part of healing — but sometimes, after surgery, injury, burns, or trauma, scars can continue to feel tight, sensitive, restricted, numb, lumpy, itchy, or disconnected from the surrounding tissue.

ScarWork is a gentle, hands-on approach to scar treatment developed by Sharon Wheeler that helps improve mobility, texture, comfort, and integration of scar tissue. Rather than forcing or breaking up tissue, ScarWork uses light, responsive techniques to work with the body and support the scar as it softens and becomes more adaptable.

This work can be helpful for many types of scars, including:
-
C-section scars
-
Tummy tuck or cosmetic surgery scars
-
Breast surgery scars
-
Joint replacement scars
-
Orthopedic surgery scars
-
Laparoscopic scars
-
Injury or burn scars
ScarWork is often sought out following cosmetic, orthopedic, abdominal, and breast surgeries, but may also be beneficial for scars that are many years old.

People seek ScarWork for many different reasons. Some are looking to improve the appearance of a scar, while others are experiencing symptoms such as:
• Tightness or pulling around a scar
• Restricted movement
• Numbness or altered sensation
• Sensitivity or tenderness
• Itching
• Adhesions or tissue restrictions
• A feeling that the scar remains "stuck" or disconnected from the surrounding tissue

ScarWork can be beneficial for both recent and older scars. Many clients are surprised to find that even scars that are years old can continue to change and improve with gentle, skilled treatment.
ScarWork may help improve pulling, tightness, adhesions, sensitivity, numbness, puckering, and restricted movement around the scar. Many people are surprised by how gentle the work feels — and how connected a scar can be to the way the rest of the body moves and feels.

Each session is individualized based on your scar, your comfort level, and your stage of healing. We work slowly, gently, and respectfully, especially when a scar holds emotional significance or is connected to a major surgery, medical experience, or life event.

ScarWork is not about making a scar disappear. It is about helping the tissue feel more comfortable, mobile, and integrated in your body.

Why We Offer ScarWork

As Certified Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapists, we frequently work with clients recovering from surgery. Over time, we began to see how scars can continue to affect comfort, movement, sensation, and the way people feel in their bodies long after the initial healing process is complete.
ScarWork is a natural extension of the work we already do. It allows us to support clients not only during recovery, but also in addressing the tissue restrictions and discomfort that may remain months or even years after surgery or injury.
Our approach is gentle, collaborative, and tailored to each individual. Every scar tells a story, and we believe treatment should honor both the tissue itself and the person attached to it.
